Shirin Neshat

Shirin Neshat is an Iranian-born artist and filmmaker living in New York City. She has directed three feature-length films: Women Without Men (2009), which received the Silver Lion Award for Best Director at the Venice International Film Festival; Looking for Oum Kulthum (2017); and Land of Dreams (2021), which also premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions around the world, and her honors include the Golden Lion Award-First International Prize at the Venice Biennale (1999), the Hiroshima Freedom Prize (2005), the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize (2006), and the Japan Art Association’s Praemium Imperiale Award (2017).
